BDPALOP is a movement that catalyzes the comic book ecosystem in the PALOP space and the various elements of its value chain.
What are the goals
BDPALOP aims to foster, stimulate and consolidate interest in the creation and consumption of comic books in Mozambique, Angola and Cape Verde, proposing a series of support activities, training and access to international markets, which will contribute to the increase of employability and income generation in the cultural and creative industries sector, as well as to the increase of literacy among the younger generation.
Main Activities
An annual literary grant for comic book creation for Mozambique, Angola and Cape Verde, which will support, financially and through training and mentoring activities, 18 grant recipients and the production of 9 comic books each year.
It will produce an annual Comics event in the countries of the intervention.
It will also have an online platform for grantees, other authors and Portuguese language comic book publishers to exhibit, commercialize and internationalize their works.
Origin
Create Jobs
BDPALOP stems from the need to diversify the cultural and creative industries sectors in the countries of intervention and create more formal jobs in this area through comic books.
Promote Literacy
It also aims to take advantage of the strong visual component and simple narratives of comics to encourage more children and young people in the PALOP to start their journey in reading, thus promoting an increase in literacy.
Vision for BDPalop
To transform BDPALOP into a sustainable and growing commercial business, positioning the brand as an international reference in the production of comic books in Africa and ensuring that artists and professionals in the medium have access to more opportunities.
