Maísa Chaves

Illustrator

After completing her degree in Fine Arts in South Africa, she returned to work in Mozambique for the next 11 years as an illustrator in the advertising business. Besides working intensely in this world of clients and demand, she also pursues projects where she expresses herself as a part-time painter and muralist. For an artist who grew up in Mozambique in the ’90s, the world of comic books, however limited in this place and time, was among many one of the most important and influential cornerstones in her journey as the artist and person she is today.

Nádia Aragão

Artist, producer and cultural agent

She is a writer, entrepreneur and copywriter for one of the biggest advertising companies in Angola. With a degree in Communication Sciences, she worked as a reporter at Premium Line Portal and as a producer and reporter at Palanca TV, where she had the privilege of collaborating with Paulo Miranda and journalist Petra Gama. In 2018 she created her own brand called Boneca Africana, where she has been developing her work as a writer of children’s literature. Her first book with the title “A Borboleta de uma Asa” was launched on May 28, 2022 at BAI Academy.

Daniel Medina

University teacher, writer and researcher

He is a university professor, journalist, writer, trainer and researcher. He is President of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts at the University of Cape Verde, having previously held the posts of Dean of the Intercontinental University of Cape Verde, President of the Scientific Council, acting Dean of Lusófona University in Cape Verde and director of several degrees. In the literary field he is President of the Cape Verdean Academy of Letters and Vice-President of the Cape Verdean Society of Authors and Member of the International Union of Portuguese-Speaking Writers. He has published several books in the areas of poetry and prose.

Rodrigo Faria

Writer, translator and editor

Writer, translator and editor, he holds a master’s degree in Literary Theory and Comparative Literature from the University of São Paulo. Author of 12 books among children’s, juvenile and adult books, as editor and Publisher he was responsible for the publication of more than a thousand books, mostly when he was in charge of the SESI-SP and SENAI-SP publishing houses, which he helped create and managed for about 8 years. As an editor he received several awards, among them 12 Jabutis, 13 Best Book of the Year from FNLIJ, more than 50 highly recommended by the same institution, and also as a comic book editor he received the Best Publisher 2017 HQ Mix award. He is currently running his own publishing house focused on contemporary Brazilian literature, graphic novels and a label dedicated to children’s books.

Paulo Monteiro

Director of the Beja International Comics Festival

He is one of the key figures of comics in Portugal. Founder of the Beja International Comics Festival, which celebrated this year its 17th edition and is one of the most important comic events in Portugal, he is also the President of the Portuguese Comic Book Club, the oldest institution linked to the Ninth Art in Portugal. He is also an award-winning comic book author, with a work translated into many foreign languages, among which we highlight “The Infinite Love I Have for You”, probably his greatest work.
