Cape Verde, 1712. The ambitious merchant Faustino Melo Ribeiro arrives in the then capital Ribeira Grande de Santiago, eager to place his services at the Governor’s disposal, but his interests will cross with those of Captain João Baltazar. Meanwhile, the slave Lourenço does everything he can to win Maria, a young slave who dreams of buying her freedom. He ends up developing a friendship with Francisco Simão, the last of the Jesuit priests on the island, with a mysterious past.
