Torre Nova – The Last Building in Tawen

2,00 6,00

Ta.wen: noun; from the English ‘town’; city; agglomeration of people that, situated in a geographically defined area, has many houses, outbuildings; central part of a city.

The city of Maputo is in transformation, but the Torre Nova building remains untouched. Paíto, Maninha and Zita live in this old building and, although they live in different apartments, they share the same dilemmas and frustrations. Together they decide to start a ‘building newspaper’ where they denounce the fact that the elevator has been broken for years, which triggers a series of discussions among the neighbors. There are those who want to contribute, there are those who don’t think they need to, and there are still those who refrain from making any comment, and the residents’ committee is forced to take a position.
